Savannakhet Province, On March, April 2024 - Lane Xang Minerals Limited Company (LXML) handed over a profit tax of US$ 24 million for the year 2023 to Savannakhet Province at the Provincial Administration Office. The profit tax was presented by Mr. Saman Aneka, Managing Director of LXML, and his delegation, and was honorably received by Mr. Bounchome Ubonpraseuth, Governor of Savannakhet Province, along with the Department of Tax and Provincial Affairs.

Mr. Saman Aneka expressed his gratitude to the Governor and the Provincial Tax Department for their support of the Sepon mine project and for facilitating the payment of the profit tax for the year 2023.

He also highlighted the company's challenges in 2024, including high production costs due to low ore quality and the need to build additional roads to access the ore for the upcoming Far West project. This project will require an investment budget of tens of millions of US dollars in 2024. Mr. Aneka noted the company's pride in being approved to pay royalty tax along with profit tax to Savannakhet Province annually and expressed gratitude to the governor for supporting the Community Trust Fund for the district, in line with the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment obligations of the project.

In response, the Governor expressed his appreciation to the Board of Directors of LXML for their continued contributions to the province and their support of the Visit Lao Year in Savannakhet Province. He noted that contributions from various companies, including LXML, have led to the improvement and development of the national socio-economic.

The royalty and profit tax contribution from LXML for the year 2023 is seen as a positive development for the future of Savannakhet Province. The Governor expressed his satisfaction in supporting LXML and extended an invitation to the company's chairman to visit the province.

On 26 March 2024, Lane Xang Minerals Limited Company (LXML) has extended its support through the enhancement of water supply pipelines in Mai Village. A formal ceremony was held to mark the completion of this project, with Mr. Valiya Sichan Thongthip, the mayor of Vilabouly district, and Mr. Saman Aneka, Managing Director of Lane Xang Minerals Limited Company, presiding over the event. The handover ceremony was attended by village officials, residents, technical staff from LXML, and representatives from the contractor company.

In early 2023, LXML undertook the construction of a water supply system in Mai Village in collaboration with the local community. Recognizing the need for improvements, the decision was made to upgrade the water pipeline to better cater to the needs of the residents. LXML facilitated the installation of a 110mm water pipeline spanning 1,700 meters at a cost of 150,000,000 kip (equivalent to US$7,165). This upgrade is aimed at enhancing the accessibility of clean water for the village inhabitants.

The longstanding partnership between LXML and the Mai Village community has yielded significant successes across various initiatives. These include infrastructure developments such as road construction within the village, the establishment of a water collection tank, the construction of a temple hall and village office, as well as the distribution of essential items like chairs, tables, and water systems.

Furthermore, LXML's Sepon Trust Fund (TF) project has been a valuable asset to the communities residing in the vicinity of the Sepon gold-copper project for over 19 years. The annual funding, which has progressively increased from 96,000 dollars to 750,000 dollars, is dedicated to enhancing community infrastructure, health, education, and agriculture. This financial support has facilitated the construction of roads, expansion of the power grid to remote areas, and allocation of funds to various sectors within the city. LXML recently participated in a Public Training Course on Good Hygiene Practices and Food Safety and Quality Culture for the Food Supply Chain. The training took place from March 05 - 07, 2024, and was conducted by the internationally accredited and globally recognized SGS Academy based in Thailand.

The Occupational Health & Hygiene (OH&H) team at LXML plays a crucial role in supporting the catering department to maintain food safety both on-site and off-site, particularly with external suppliers. However, the team faced challenges in identifying risks, potential hazards, control points, and areas for improvement due to insufficient knowledge of conducting supplier audits based on LXML's food safety plan standard.

The training consisted of two key sessions focused on enhancing food safety and quality culture within the food supply chain. The first session covered Good Hygiene Practice – Hazard Analysis Critical Control (GHP’s -HACCP) System revision, which aimed to provide a deeper understanding of the importance of GHP’s and HACCP food safety requirements in an international standard. This session equipped the OH&H team with the knowledge and skills to audit and support the catering department in identifying biological, chemical, and physical hazards in the food offered to employees and contractors. It also enabled them to determine significant risks, implement controls to minimize employee and contractor illness, and validate adequate controls for hazards.

The second session focused on Food Safety Culture, updating the knowledge of all OH&H auditors on the current food safety management system that can be adopted in LXML's food safety operations. This session emphasized the importance of attitudes, behaviors, and the priority given to food safety in an organization. It underscored the need for a strong food safety culture, where catering staff take responsibility, pride, and care in producing safe food, along with the right knowledge, skills, and a committed attitude to consistently do things the right way.
