LXML Celebrates Grand Opening of Discovery Deeps 2 Underground Mine, Marking a New Era for Modern Mining at Sepon

Vilabouly District, Savannakhet Province, Lao PDR — 30 July 2027 — Lane Xang Minerals Limited Company (LXML) officially celebrated the grand opening of Discovery Deeps 2 Mine (DD2) at the Sepon Gold-Copper Mine, marking another major milestone in the company’s transition toward modern underground mining and its continued contribution to Lao PDR’s socio-economic development.

The ceremony was honourably chaired by H.E. Mr. Santiphab Phomvihane, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Lao PDR, with the participation of H.E. Mr. Chansaveng Bounyong, Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce; H.E. Mme Daovone Xaisoulien, Chairwoman of the Savannakhet Provincial Administration Committee and Deputy Secretary of the Savannakhet Provincial Party Committee; and senior government officials from central, provincial and district levels.

DD2 is the second underground mine development at Sepon, building on the successful development of DD1, recognised as the first modern underground mine in Lao PDR. The opening of DD2 represents a strategic step in extending Sepon’s future, strengthening ore supply, supporting future production, creating more employment and skills development opportunities for Lao people, and generating further revenue and benefits for the Government and local communities.

Since the commencement of operations, Sepon has made a significant contribution to Lao PDR. LXML has contributed over US$1.9 billion in direct revenue to the Government through taxes, royalties and dividends, as well as approximately US$194 million in indirect benefits through employment, training, local business opportunities, infrastructure improvement, health, education, UXO clearance, community development and environmental programmes.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Gao Bo reaffirmed Chifeng Gold’s long-term commitment to Sepon and Lao PDR, highlighting the Group’s strategy to advance operational excellence, modern mining technology, green and ecological mining, digital mining, safety, environmental protection and sustainable value creation.

Mr. Guanghui Zhao, General Manager of LXML, described DD2 as a milestone not only for Sepon but also for the mining industry in Lao PDR, noting that responsible mining goes beyond producing copper and gold; it is about creating lasting benefits for the Lao people, supporting communities and driving national prosperity.

Mr. Saman Aneka, Managing Director, underlined LXML’s long-standing community contribution, including the Community Trust Fund of US$750,000 per year, support for disadvantaged families, vocational training, and local business development, with local businesses generating more than US$50 million over the past 23 years.

Mr. Andrew Brown, Vice General Manager highlighted that DD2 reflects the future direction of global mining, with underground mining helping reduce surface disturbance, limit waste rock, improve efficiency and preserve more of the surrounding environment. He also emphasised that modern underground mining requires skilled Lao operators, technicians and leaders, supported through structured training, simulator learning and supervised practical experience.

In his remarks, H.E. Mr. Chansaveng Bounyong congratulated LXML on this important milestone and acknowledged Sepon’s long-standing contribution to the socio-economic development of Lao PDR, including government revenue, infrastructure development, job creation for Lao people, technical knowledge transfer and community development. He noted that Sepon’s continued strong performance, including its A+ evaluation, reflects the company’s attention to regulations, technical standards, environmental protection and social responsibility. LXML Expands Career Opportunities for Engineering and Mining Students at Polytechnic College06 July 2026 – Lane Xang Minerals Limited Company (LXML), operator of the Sepon Gold-Copper Mine, visited Polytechnic College to share career information and explore employment opportunities for students in engineering, mining, and related technical disciplines.

The visit was led by Mr. Mikeo Thongpathoum, Superintendent – Human Resources of LXML, together with members of the company’s technical team. The engagement focused particularly on current and final-year students studying Mining Engineering, Geology, Surveying, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydrogeology, and other related fields.

During the session, LXML representatives introduced students to potential career pathways within the company and provided information on opportunities to apply their technical knowledge in a professional mining environment. The initiative forms part of LXML’s continued efforts to strengthen links between education and industry while supporting the development of skilled Lao professionals.

Vilabouly District, Savannakhet Province – Lane Xang Minerals Limited Company (LXML) provided LAK 42,420,000 in funding for the 2026 Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition Promotion Day Project in Vilabouly District, supporting improved access to essential healthcare services for mothers, children, and families in communities surrounding the Sepon Gold-Copper Mine.

The initiative forms part of the Health Impact Assessment (HIA) program for the Sepon Gold and Copper Mine Expansion Project and is being implemented in collaboration with the Vilabouly District Health Office. Mobile health outreach activities were conducted from 15 to 22 June 2026 in six target villages (Non Somphou, Na Xienglae, Na Then Heuy, Na Pho, Na Meuang Sane, and Na Kachan).

LXML’s funding supported field operations by medical teams, as well as the procurement of essential medicines and medical equipment. Services included growth and nutrition monitoring for children under five years old; essential vaccinations for children under two, including BCG, Pentavalent, and MR vaccines; and the distribution of Vitamin A and deworming medication.

The program also supported health checks and vaccination services for pregnant women, postpartum mothers, and women aged 15 to 45. In addition, health education sessions, contraceptive distribution, and self-care counselling were provided to strengthen family health knowledge and promote better healthcare practices within local communities.

Through this initiative, LXML continues to work closely with local health authorities to support preventive healthcare, maternal and child wellbeing, and improved access to essential public health services. The project reflects LXML’s belief that investing in the health of mothers and children today contributes to stronger families, healthier communities, and sustainable development for Vilabouly District and the Lao PDR.

Sepon District, Savannakhet Province, 12 June 2026 – Lane Xang Minerals Limited Company (LXML) has handed over 19 native breeding cows to three disadvantaged families in Sepon District, reinforcing its continued commitment to improving livelihoods, strengthening household income, and supporting poverty reduction in communities near the Sepon Gold-Copper Mine.

The beneficiary families are from La-ngy Village in La-teab Cluster and Xieng Hom Village in Poung and Din Mo Cluster, Sepon District, Savannakhet Province. The handover was part of LXML’s community development support to promote livestock farming as a practical and sustainable income-generating activity for vulnerable households.

The project, valued at LAK 117,070,000 or approximately US$5,300, was witnessed by district government representatives, including Mr. Chanthalath Malaikham, Deputy Head of the Sepon District Agriculture and Environment Office; Mr. Inthiyakone Xayaseng, Deputy Head of the Sepon District Administrative Office; and Mr. Boualom Kongthavong, Head of the Sepon District Labour and Social Welfare Office. Representing LXML was Mr. Khamsy Chankham, Senior Superintendent – Community Relations and Development, together with village authorities and the beneficiary families.

The initiative aims to help disadvantaged families develop livestock raising as an additional source of income, improve long-term food security, and build greater self-reliance. By providing native breeding cows, the project supports household economic development and creates opportunities for families to gradually expand their livestock assets and improve their quality of life.

The handover reflects the strong cooperation between LXML, local authorities, and communities in addressing practical livelihood needs. It also demonstrates LXML’s ongoing commitment to supporting sustainable community development and helping local families build more secure and resilient futures.
