On June 24-25, a significant meeting on Mine Closure and Community Development was held at the Holiday Inn Hotel, Vientiane, chaired by Mr. Bounyong Sidavong, Director General of the Geology and Mines Department, Ministry of Industry and Commerce. The event brought together various mining companies, government officials, and relevant ministries, including a delegation from LXML led by Managing Director - Mr. Saman Aneka, Deputy Director of LXML - Mrs. Daomany Chanphakeo and their team members.

A key focus of the discussions was the new decree on mine closure, emphasizing its principles, regulations, and measures for managing and monitoring mine closure to ensure effective rehabilitation and restoration of affected areas. The decree aims to guarantee physical stability and safety for people, animals, and plants, chemical stability, positive socio-economic changes for affected communities, and environmental rehabilitation in line with approved closure plans. It also ensures community participation and alignment with government and community development goals.

LXML proudly shared its expertise at the meeting. Mr. Saman Aneka presented LXML's community development strategy and activities, while Mr. Ketsakda Phonekeopaseurth, Senior Advisor - Environmental Monitoring, represented LXML SHE Department detailed LXML's Mine Closure strategy. The meeting facilitated an exchange of lessons learned and challenges regarding mine closure and community development between the government and mining companies. Discussions also covered the new decree for community development at the local level and regulations concerning penalties for companies that do not comply with government laws.
