LXML Commemorates World Environment Day and National Environment Day with Community

On June 5, 2025, Lane Xang Minerals Limited Company (LXML), in collaboration with the Vilabouly District Authority and its Office of Natural Resources and Environment, conducted a tree-planting event in observance of the 52^nd World Environment Day and the 26^th National Environment Day.

The event took place at the Vilabouly District Administration Office Hall and was presided over by Mr. Valiya Sichanthongthip, Governor of Vilabouly District. It was attended by Savannakhet and Vilabouly Government Officials, local community members, LXML Environment and CSR teams and LXML contractors.

During the event, the Governor conveyed a message from His Excellency Prime Minister of the Lao PDR, emphasizing the 2025 theme: “Beat Plastic Pollution” for a clean and bright environment. The message addressed the global and local impacts of plastic waste, noting that plastics can take 400 to 450 years to decompose. Improper disposal methods such as dumping and burning contribute to significant air, soil, and water pollution, adversely affecting public health and ecosystems. The Prime Minister called upon Lao citizens to actively participate in waste separation, litter prevention, and the adoption of the "3R" principles—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle—while supporting the enforcement of relevant laws to foster cleaner, greener communities.”

On the same occasion, Mr. Carl Rieck – LXML Manager – Safety Health and Environment, delivered a speech highlighting the importance of the event. He stated: “Plastic waste is an issue globally that is significantly impacting ecosystems, waterways, wildlife and human health. Recognising this global threat, the theme for this year's world environment day urges us all to reduce plastic consumption and promote plastic recycling and reuse.

In developing countries like Laos, the management of plastic waste presents unique challenges- generally speaking, management of plastic waste is made difficult by the limited availability of waste management infrastructure and services, with many areas remaining reliant on uncontrolled dumping and burning of plastic waste. That's why events like this today are important in increasing awareness of the issue.

At LXML Sepon we are committed to actively promoting the 3-R waste principle - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, we are continually incorporating these principles into our operations and ensuring waste management is a key part of what we do, every day.”

The event concluded with a community tree-planting activity around the District Administration Office Hall. LXML donated 600 saplings to Vilabouly, with 200 allocated for reforestation efforts in Nong Thada area and the remaining 400 planted at various strategic locations within the district. Additionally, LXML also provided commemorative items, including 150 thermal water bottles, 150 cotton bags, and 250 hats.

On the same day, a special evening gathering was held at the LXML Sepon mine site to celebrate the occasion. The event also included an interactive Q&A session and team-building activities aimed at raising awareness among employees about environmental issues, with a particular emphasis on plastic waste management. These initiatives sought to promote a deeper understanding of sustainable practices and encourage active participation in environmental stewardship among all staff.
