Today, Lane Xang Minerals Limited (LXML) Sepon Mine donated a RT – PCR COVID-19 machine and associated supplies to Savannakhet Health Division to improve testing and tracing capacity in the province.

The equipment builds on LXML’s previous support to Savannakhet, including a hygiene facility in a site hospital, medical supplies, and direct financial contributions of over US$112,000 to support the pandemic response. LXML also donated WHO approved rapid test kits, and established a field hospital in Vilabouly District. To date, LXML has donated approximately US$450,000 to assist the Lao Government with COVID-19 prevention and emergency response measures.

“We recognise active and timely contact tracing, testing, quarantining, treatment, and vaccines are crucial in containing the spread of COVID-19,” said Mr Saman Aneka, Managing Director, LXML Sepon. “We hope our assistance will ensure that local communities and Savannakhet Province are protected from COVID-19. We are working closely with all stakeholders at central, provincial, and district levels.”

The PCR machine was handed to Mrs Lingthong Sengtavanh, Savannakhet Vice Governor and Head of the Provincial COVID-19 TAskforce, by Mr Thonekeo Phoutthakayalath, LXML Advisor. Savannakhet now has four PCR machines with a capacity of 720 tests per day.

Thanks to the support of Savannakhet Health Department, approximately 5,000 LXML contractors and employees (99% of the workforce) have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and presentation of a valid vaccine certificate is required for entry to Sepon mine and LXML offices in Vientiane and Savannakhet. LXML is committed to supporting the Lao Government’s response and efforts to prevent spread of COVID-19.
