LXML reports first COVID-19 cases in five contractors

August 25, 2021

On 24 August 2021, following initial positive antigen test results, five LXML contractors received positive PCR tests for COVID-19. Two of these returned positive Antigen tests in Savannakhet on 23 August prior to travel to Sepon Mine. LXML has conducted 311 Antigen tests since 23 August, which helped us to identify these cases. All five confirmed cases are in a stable condition and are receiving treatment in a state facility in Savannakhet in accordance with procedures set out by the COVID-19 Taskforce.

LXML is conducting extensive contact tracing to identify potential sources of infection and isolating potential contacts. All LXML employees and contractors travelling to Sepon Mine receive either a PCR test in Vientiane or Antigen tests in Savannakhet or Sepon Site Access gate before being allowed entry to Sepon Mine. This serves as a precautionary measure to contain the COVID-19 outbreak.

LXML is cooperating closely with the Lao Government’s COVID19 Taskforce and authorities in Savannakhet Province, and will continue to support quarantine and testing measures to ensure the safety of employees, contractors, and communities.

LXML has implemented additional precautionary measures, including suspension of travel to and from Sepon Mine, enforcement of physical distancing measures, and enhanced cleaning and sanitizing of work areas.

LXML has vaccinated almost all employees and contractors, providing an important control to prevent COVID-19. Only persons who have received a vaccine are permitted access to the site and offices in Savannakhet and Vientiane Capital.
