Chifeng Gold’s Lane Xang Minerals Limited (LXML) operates the Sepon Gold and Copper Operation, located in Vilabouly District, Savannakhet Province, Lao PDR. Since operations commenced in 2003, LXML Sepon has produced over 1.1 million tonnes of copper cathode and over 53 tonnes of gold. In 2023, Sepon produced 6,500 tonnes of copper and 6 tonnes of gold. Planned production for 2024 is over 6 tonnes of gold and 5,000 tonnes of copper.

In support of this growth, we are looking for a Superintendent – Metallurgy (Gold) to join our team to deliver on production plans, and be a part of this exciting future.

Reporting directly to the Senior Superintendent – Processing, the Superintendent – Metallurgy (Gold) will be accountable for hitting daily and weekly gold production targets while managing key members of the technical team, including two expat Senior Metallurgists along with a combination of national plant/graduate metallurgists and metallurgical technicians. Metallurgical accounting and production planning knowledge is critical to the success of the role. Key technical projects are also to be executed on-time and deliver the planned benefit to metal production each quarter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing production across two gold circuits, ensuring that daily and weekly KPI targets are met. This includes effectively directing the metallurgy team to achieve production objectives under guidance of the Senior Superintendent.
  • Monitoring process plant performance and liaising with areas of the site operation about technical consequences and forecasts; Coordinate the operating supervision in the output of the daily strategy in relation to plant performance, bottlenecks, threats and risks.
  • A detailed understanding of the metallurgical accounting system, budget/forecast model and the life of mine planning process.
  • Leading simultaneous projects with competing priorities in various execution phases on a wide variety of processes to improve metallurgical performance.
  • Minimising consumptions and unit costs of externally supplied reagents by understanding cost/performance relationships of these consumables and setting operating parameters that maximize efficiency.
  • Setting metallurgical, sampling and laboratory standards, as well as processing set points.
  • Ensuring all routine and required reporting – weekly, monthly and annual forecasts are completed accurately in a timely manner.
  • Mentoring, coaching and training for metallurgists, graduate metallurgists, and process officers.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Tertiary degree in Mineral Processing, Metallurgical, or Chemical engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience, specifically with a gold production plant.
  • Experience managing and leading metallurgy production teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks whilst providing key stakeholders timely outputs.
  • Project management ability with proven success.
  • High level of technical skills in gold circuits, particularly in milling, would be an additional asset.
  • Process control automation experience.
  • Experience in production planning and metallurgical accounting.
