Chifeng Gold’s Lane Xang Minerals Limited (LXML) operates the Sepon Gold and Copper Operation, located in Vilabouly District, Savannakhet Province, Lao PDR. Since operations commenced in 2003, LXML Sepon has produced over 1.1 million tonnes of copper cathode and over 53 tonnes of gold. In 2022, Sepon produced 6,600 tonnes of copper and 6.7 tonnes of gold. Planned production for 2023 is over 6 tonnes of gold and 5,000 tonnes of copper.

Reporting to the Processing Manager, the Senior Superintendent – Operations (Processing) is responsible for safe and efficient operation of the Primary Gold, Oxide Gold and Copper Hydromet processing plants. Direct reports include four area superintendents and five technical advisors. Together, with your superintendents, you will lead a large multinational team (>170 personnel) of Supervisors, Operators, and experienced Technical Advisors. The position will work closely with the Processing Manager and the Senior Superintendent – Technical (Processing) to deliver the department Business plan and drive continuous improvement through the Operational Excellence program.

Key responsibilities include:

• Driving a positive safety and work culture within operation team through delivery of the Safety, Health & Environment management plan.
• Ensuring safe operational compliance with the plant operating strategy, developed in conjunction with the technical team.
• Effective management of the tailing’s storage facilities and the site water balance, to ensure operational and environmental compliance.
• Operational readiness and commissioning of new projects, including flotation regrind project and grinding/flotation automation.
• Safe and efficient operation ASU and VPSA oxygen plants. Management of contractors, discretionary project spending, and major wear components.
• Play an integral role in shutdown planning and preparation to ensure safe and efficient shutdown management.
• Contribute to incident investigations, fatal risk management, and driving safety initiatives consistently.
• Training and development of the national workforce through frontline supervisory training and reinstating the competency assessment program.
• Identifying and executing improvement initiatives focused on safety, volume, and cost, through LXML’s Operational Excellence program.
• Providing coverage for the Processing Manager as required.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• >10 years mineral processing experience.
• >5 years as Processing Manager or Superintendent.
• Experience managing complex mineral processing plants.
• Exposure to Pressure oxidation & CIL would be highly regarded.
• A degree in Metallurgy / Chemical Engineering is desired but not essential.

This is a fixed term position based in Vientiane, the capital city of Laos, offering an attractive 5 days on/2 days off; 4 days on/3 days off FIFO roster to Sepon Mine.  A FIFO roster from point of hire may also be considered for the right candidate. The onsite camp facilities at Sepon include fully serviced air-conditioned rooms, dining halls, convenience store, gym and sporting facilities, and a fully equipped medical centre.
