Chifeng Gold’s Lane Xang Minerals Limited (LXML) operates the Sepon Gold and Copper Operation, located in Vilabouly District, Savannakhet Province, Lao PDR. Since operations commenced in 2003, LXML Sepon has produced over 1.1 million tonnes of copper cathode and over 53 tonnes of gold. In 2022, Sepon produced 6,600 tonnes of copper and 6.7 tonnes of gold. In 2023, our planned production forecast is over 6 tonnes of gold and 6,000 tonnes of copper.

LXML is now positioning itself for future growth.  With the underground  production at Sepon commencing , and a number of other feasibility studies, a ramp up in exploration and merging and acquisition activity underway, the future for LXML and the Sepon operation is unlimited in potential and opportunity.

To support our operation, we are seeking a qualified candidate in the position of Senior Medium Term Mine Planning Engineer.

Reporting directly to the Superintendent – Mine Planning, this role will be responsible for the open pit medium and long term mine planning. This role will involve planning on a variety of different time horizons including rolling monthly plans, quarterly plans, annual budgets and 3 years plans. Ensuring that all mine plans and schedules provides efficient mining operations.  By using updated block models to revise, update and optimise pit designs. Importantly, you must have a strong background in coaching and mentoring teams to assist with team development.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Developing the rolling monthly, quarterly, annual budget and 3 years mine plans to meet the mill throughput require including ore blending which aim to optimise gold production
• Coaching and monitoring the short-term production engineer both national and expat to develop the 6 week rolling plan to achieve the quarterly plan and align with annual budget
• Appropriated action to the key stakeholders if there is any significant variance to the mine plan which has the potential to impact the Life of Mine (LOM) value chain.
• Optimise medium-term mine plan / schedule including ore blending to Processing Plant to optimise the gold production
• Ensure that designs and plans incorporate environmental and geotechnical considerations
• The mine production performance is reconciled against medium term plan for variation identification
• Investigate variations that occur and ensure that plans to rectified variations are actioned
• Organise and prepare complex documents by using multiple software summarising data for monthly, quarterly and annual budget
• Continuously review and improve on existing processes, systems and procedures for the mine planning section
• Contributing to the development and review of resource allocations and budgets (people and equipment) to ensure they reflect the business drivers and intent.
• Use comprehensive knowledge and skills to work independently, while providing guidance and training to others on planning, organising, prioritising and overseeing activities to efficiently meet business objectives

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Tertiary degree in Mine Engineering or equivalent
• At least 8 years of experience working in long term open pit mine planning
• Competency with mining software package – Deswik, whittle and Vulcan proficiency.
• Ability to work unsupervised and display good problem-solving skills.
• Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to program VBA highly desirable
• Awareness of geological, geotechnical, hydrogeological, and environmental considerations impacting mine designs and schedules.
• Demonstrated ability to collaboratively work with other technical services functions, including geology, hydrogeology, geotechnical, and survey.
• Adaptability in a diverse work environment, including a multicultural setting.
