Chifeng Gold’s Lane Xang Minerals Limited (LXML) operates the Sepon Gold and Copper Operation, located in Vilabouly District, Savannakhet Province, Lao PDR. Since operations commenced in 2003, LXML Sepon has produced over 1.1 million tonnes of copper cathode and over 1.5 million ounces of gold doré. In 2021, Sepon produced 5,341 tonnes of copper and 192,988 ounces of gold doré. Sepon projects a production of over 223,000 ounces of gold doré in 2022.

LXML is now positioning itself for future growth. With the transition from a copper-focused operation to a gold-focused operation completed in 2020 and with a number of other feasibility studies, a ramp up in exploration and with merger and acquisition activity underway, the future for LXML and the Sepon operation is unlimited in potential and opportunity.

To support our operation, we are seeking a qualified candidate in the position of Production Engineer. Reporting directly to the Underground Mine Manager, this role is responsible and accountable for managing the planned development and stoping operations at the mine. This focus includes consideration of both the short term and daily production plan requirements. The Production Engineer encompasses mining engineering related advice, services and support to the Tech Services and Mining teams including mine design, drill and blast, short and mid-term planning, ventilation compliance oversight, scheduling and production requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Produce practical mine designs (including infrastructure and development required) to enable exploration of mining blocks over the LOM period
  • Produce and maintain rolling production schedules
  • Develop drill and blast designs to support scheduled targets
  • Communicate with the Shift Supervisor, crew and technical staff on plans and issues
  • Analyse and optimise ventilation systems
  • Review applications of different mining methods and the impact on the economic viability of mining blocks and recommend changes as required
  • Ensure that all people that visit you or your Department are appropriately inducted and comply with site standards and procedures
  • Correct and/or report safety hazards when observed
  • Report regularly back to line leader
  • Comply to all regular reporting schedules
  • Follow all the policy and standards of LXML

 Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in mining engineering is essential
  • At least 3 years experience in a similar levelled position
  • Completed mine underground time
  • Previous experience in metalliferous underground mining with long hole open stope designing
  • 3D mine design software – Deswick or Vulcan preferred
  • Previous experience working in a developing nation desired
  • It is expected that you will have excellent communication skills, strong report writing skills and problem-solving ability.

This expatriate assignment is residentially based in the Lao capital city of Vientiane on a 9/5 roster to site.  Alternatively, a longer FIFO roster from your home country can be agreed for the right candidate.
