Chifeng Gold’s Lane Xang Minerals Limited (LXML) operates the Sepon Gold and Copper Operation, located in Vilabouly District, Savannakhet Province, Lao PDR. Since operations commenced in 2003, LXML Sepon has produced over 1.1 million tonnes of copper cathode and over 1.5 million ounces of gold doré. In 2021, Sepon produced 5,341 tonnes of copper and 192,988 ounces of gold doré. Sepon projects a production of over 223,000 ounces of gold doré in 2022.

LXML is now positioning itself for future growth. With the transition from a copper-focused operation to a gold-focused operation completed in 2020 and with a number of other feasibility studies, a ramp up in exploration and with merger and acquisition activity underway, the future for LXML and the Sepon operation is unlimited in potential and opportunity.

In support of this growth, we are looking for Superintendent – Processing Improvement to join our team to deliver on our growth plans, and be a part of this exciting future.

The role of the Processing Improvement Superintendent is to champion change, improvements, and operational excellence within the production workforce in the Processing plant, ensuring a safe and productive operation that delivers on the Sepon business plan.

Key Accountabilities or Activities

  • Work collaboratively with all levels in the production team to effectively improve the capability and competency of the frontline workforce through targeted development opportunities.
  • In conjunction with the Project and Maintenance teams work together to plan commissioning, start up and ongoing reliable production of equipment within the process plant.
  • Drive continuous business improvement through delivery of projects and initiatives both autonomously and through collaboration with the production teams.
  • Work closely with the Processing Technical team to facilitate production optimization in an efficient and sustainable way.
  • Demonstrate and drive commitment to safety through visible leadership in the field and creating a safe work culture.
  • Support the capability and competency development of Processing Co-ordinators, Senior Operators, Control Room Operators and Supervisors.
  • Ensure that planned works are integrated and proactively executed in line with departmental operational requirements.
  • Conduct safety and process loss investigations and delivering quality actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Foster a culture which drives a high preforming team through continuous improvement projects.
  • Regular reporting as per the departmental requirements.
  • Manage costs and production in line with the agreed business plans.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in similar processing plants and 3 years full-time Supervisor experience.
  • Degree qualified in Metallurgy / Chemical Engineering essential.
  • An aptitude for managing process change and improvement, including proven experience with different problem solving and improvement tools and successful change and improvement outcomes relevant to a processing operation.
  • Experience leading change and improvement across large groups will be favourably viewed.
  • Ability to lead operational teams, including practical experience with performance management and capability development.
  • High level of operating skills across a variety of gold and copper processing operations including: Crushing and Milling, Pressure Oxidation, CIL and Gold room, Solvent Extraction and Electrowinning, Tailings/Neutralisation, and Water treatment.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering against agreed deadlines utilising expertise in planning, prioritisation and delegation.
  • Strong awareness and understanding of health, safety and environmental systems, practices and procedures typically associated with processing plant operations.
  • Proficiency with communicating in English both written and verbal
  • Previously expatriate experience would be highly regarded
