Chifeng Gold’s Lane Xang Minerals Limited (LXML) operates the Sepon Gold and Copper Operation, located in Vilabouly District, Savannakhet Province, Lao PDR. Since operations commenced in 2003, LXML Sepon has produced over 1.1 million tonnes of copper cathode and over 1.5 million ounces of gold doré. In 2021, Sepon produced 5,341 tonnes of copper and 192,988 ounces of gold doré. Sepon projects a production of over 223,000 ounces of gold doré in 2022.

LXML is now positioning itself for future growth. With the transition from a copper-focused operation to a gold-focused operation completed in 2020 and with a number of other feasibility studies, a ramp up in exploration and with merger and acquisition activity underway, the future for LXML and the Sepon operation is unlimited in potential and opportunity.

In support of this growth, we are looking for a Mechanical Coordinator to join our team to deliver on our growth plans, and be a part of this exciting future.

Reporting to Superintendent – Mechanical Fixed Plant, you will be responsible to provide technical leadership in the execution of mechanical maintenance plans and strategies at the processing plant. You will be responsible for the safe, efficient, economical and timely execution of plans provided by the maintenance planning section in close coordination with operations department and all sections within the fixed plant maintenance department, making sure that job is executed at required quality standards within agreed scopes.

You are expected to maintain and improve codes of practice to ensure compliance with LXML developed systems and statutory obligations. This role is also responsible for the development of a succession plan, and mentorship/coaching of high potential supervisors with the aim of being succeeded in the role.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Execution of Maintenance Plans: Provide strong field leadership, promoting safe and quality execution of works. Active participation and support of maintenance planning activities. Review and approve maintenance plans before execution. Execution and field coordination of maintenance plans according to agreed scope of work.
  • Develop the Mechanical Maintenance Team: Evaluate maintenance personnel to identify technical knowledge gaps to feed training plans. Coach maintenance personnel on front line leadership skills and execution of critical maintenance tasks. Develop a succession plan.
  • Standardize Mechanical Maintenance Processes: Lead development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Bill of Materials (BOM) for critical maintenance activities. Support execution of statutory maintenance activities. Support maintenance projects team.
  • Control and Monitoring Sectional Budget: Active participation in the development of departmental annual budget. Permanent control and monitoring of sectional budget and expenses. Identify reasons and provide explanations and actions for budget variances.
  • Control and Monitoring Equipment Performance: Monitor maintenance KPI trends and dashboards to timely identify performance deviations and to identify corrective actions.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Mechanical Trades Qualification or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferable)
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the mining industry, 10 years as senior front-line leader
  • Demonstrated safety leadership capability for both, self and team required
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical maintenance systems and process plant equipment such as crushers, conveyors, mills, compressors, pumps, pipes, valves, etc
  • Capacity to perform calculations and selection of pipes and pumping systems
  • Ability to read mechanical technical drawings, pump curves, steel specifications and P&ID
  • Knowledge of planning, reliability, operational excellence techniques and industry best practices
  • Ability to influence, coach, and instruct supervisors, technicians and tradespeople to ensure a common understanding of the maintenance team function
  • Analytical and financial skills to monitor and control sectional budget
  • Previous experience working overseas and with multicultural workforce would be well regarded
  • Experience with CMMS Systems (Pronto) and Condition Monitoring techniques such as: oil analysis, vibration analysis, thermography and ultrasound
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Project
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English is required
